How To Make Homemade Bird Treats

October 11, 2011 Bird Suet Feeder

Here’s an easy recipe for homemade bird treats. 2 cups of crushed Cheerios 2 cups of seed mixture (or pellets) 1 cup of honey Mix the ingredients together until you have a thick consistency. Press the mixture onto a baking pan and put it in the oven at 250 degrees for an hour. Let it cool. The consistency should be stiff enough to roll into balls. After shaping, put them back in the oven at 200 degrees for 30 minutes to 1 hour to harden the treats. Music: “City of Angels” and “The Unfeeling Kiss” by Gabriel Yared

These treats be good for larger birds too? (Macaws)

  7. AnnieKay74 says:

@1723Trains For larger birds, use a food mixture made for Macaws or larger birds. You can use a larger pellet mixture instead of cheerios.

Thats funny, I used to have a Cockatiel named Trixie for many years. I think she was about 10 when she died. She used to be able to whistle just about anything I taught her. Great idea! Loved the video.

  17. Mikamod says:

@sangam061289 No, dog food is not a healthy for birds. It has a lot more protein in it then they need, which can cause health problems. I’m sure they can be given a piece or two without issue, but I wouldn’t ever use it as their main diet. Different animals have different foods for a reason.
